Luigi Calamatta, Engraver

Renowed draughtsman and engraver Luigi Calamatta (1801-1869) was known for his ability to transpose the works of masters such as Raphael and Ingres, and is thus emblematic of the debate surrounding the role and function of the print during the 19th century. Caught between a faithful reproduction and a loose interpretation of an image, his work played an important part in the rise of the print in the second half of the century.

25 places are available for a presentation of the works on paper from the Calamatta collection, housed in the Musée de la Vie romantique on Thursday March 31 2016 at 10:30am. To reserve your place, please call + 33 (0)1 45 22 61 05.
